  1. Identify the likely complex formed

In aqueous solution, FeCl3FeCl_3FeCl3​ provides Fe3+Fe^{3+}Fe3+. Oxalic acid in presence of KOHKOHKOH is converted into oxalate ion, C2O42−C_2O_4^{2-}C2​O42−​.

Oxalate is a bidentate ligand, so it coordinates through two donor oxygen atoms.

A well-known complex formed is ferrioxalate: [Fe(C2O4)3]3−[Fe(C_2O_4)_3]^{3-}[Fe(C2​O4​)3​]3− (with potassium ions as counter ions in basic medium, e.g. K3[Fe(C2O4)3]K_3[Fe(C_2O_4)_3]K3​[Fe(C2​O4​)3​]).

  1. Find the secondary valency of iron

According to Werner’s theory, secondary valency = coordination number.

In [Fe(C2O4)3]3−,[Fe(C_2O_4)_3]^{3-},[Fe(C2​O4​)3​]3−, there are 3 oxalate ligands, and each oxalate is bidentate.

So coordination number of Fe is 3×2=6.3 \times 2 = 6.3×2=6.

  1. Nearest integer

The value is already an integer: 6.6.6.

Therefore, the secondary valency of FeFeFe in product AAA is 6.
