Correct answer: A

  1. Use the inert pair effect in group 13

Down group 13, the stability of the lower oxidation state +1+1+1 increases due to the inert pair effect.

    • For aluminium, the most stable oxidation state is +3+3+3.
    • For thallium, the oxidation state +1+1+1 is more stable than +3+3+3.
  2. Check statement (A): Tl3+Tl^{3+}Tl3+ is a powerful oxidising agent

Since Tl3+Tl^{3+}Tl3+ tends to get reduced to the more stable Tl+Tl^+Tl+ state, it readily accepts electrons.

Therefore, Tl3+Tl^{3+}Tl3+ acts as a strong oxidising agent.

    So, (A) is correct.

  3. Check statement (B): Al3+Al^{3+}Al3+ does not get reduced easily

Aluminium strongly prefers the +3+3+3 oxidation state. Reducing Al3+Al^{3+}Al3+ to a lower oxidation state is difficult.

Hence, Al3+Al^{3+}Al3+ does not get reduced easily.

    So, (B) is correct.

  4. Check statement (C): Both Al3+Al^{3+}Al3+ and Tl3+Tl^{3+}Tl3+ are very stable in solution

    • Al3+Al^{3+}Al3+ is stable.
    • But Tl3+Tl^{3+}Tl3+ is not very stable in solution because it tends to reduce to Tl+Tl^+Tl+.

    Therefore, (C) is false.

  5. Check statement (D): Tl1+Tl^{1+}Tl1+ is more stable than Tl3+Tl^{3+}Tl3+

This is a direct consequence of the inert pair effect in thallium.

    So, (D) is correct.

  6. Check statement (E): Al3+Al^{3+}Al3+ and Tl1+Tl^{1+}Tl1+ are highly stable

    • Al3+Al^{3+}Al3+ is the stable oxidation state of aluminium.
    • Tl+Tl^+Tl+ is the stable oxidation state of thallium.

    Therefore, (E) is correct.

  7. Collect correct statements

    Correct statements are: A,B,D,EA, B, D, EA,B,D,E

  8. Match with options

    Option A says: (A),(B),(D)(A), (B), (D)(A),(B),(D) and (E)(E)(E) only.

    Hence, Option A is correct.
