It contains two different complex ions:

  • [Ag(NH3)2]+[Ag(NH_3)_2]^+[Ag(NH3​)2​]+
  • [Ag(CN)2]−[Ag(CN)_2]^-[Ag(CN)2​]−
  1. Find oxidation state of silver in [Ag(NH3)2]+[Ag(NH_3)_2]^+[Ag(NH3​)2​]+:
  • NH3NH_3NH3​ is a neutral ligand, so its charge is 000.
  • Let oxidation state of Ag be xxx.

Then,

x+2(0)=+1x + 2(0) = +1x+2(0)=+1 x=+1x = +1x=+1

So, silver in [Ag(NH3)2]+[Ag(NH_3)_2]^+[Ag(NH3​)2​]+ has oxidation state +1+1+1.

  1. Find oxidation state of silver in [Ag(CN)2]−[Ag(CN)_2]^-[Ag(CN)2​]−:
  • CN−CN^-CN− is a ligand with charge −1-1−1.

Then,
