  2. A halogen has 777 valence electrons.

  3. In AB3AB_3AB3​, atom AAA forms 333 single bonds with three BBB atoms.

    • Each bond uses one electron from AAA.
    • So, 333 of the 777 valence electrons of AAA are used in bonding.
  4. Remaining electrons on AAA: 7−3=47 - 3 = 47−3=4 These 444 electrons form: 42=2\frac{4}{2} = 224​=2 lone pairs.

  5. This also matches the known VSEPR shape:

    • 333 bond pairs + 222 lone pairs ⇒\Rightarrow⇒ steric number 555
    • Electron geometry: trigonal bipyramidal
    • Molecular shape: T-shaped

Therefore, the number of lone pairs on AAA is 222
