  1. Use Moseley’s law for characteristic X-rays

    For characteristic X-ray frequencies, Moseley found that ν=a(Z−b)\sqrt{\nu} = a(Z-b)ν​=a(Z−b) where:

    • ν\nuν = frequency of emitted X-ray
    • ZZZ = atomic number
    • a,ba,ba,b are constants for a given series
  2. Interpret the given graph

    Since the graph shows a regular linear relation when νn\nu^nνn is plotted against ZZZ, we compare with Moseley’s law: ν∝Z−b\sqrt{\nu} \propto Z-bν​∝Z−b

    That means the quantity which is linear in ZZZ is ν1/2\nu^{1/2}ν1/2

  3. Hence determine nnn

    Therefore, n=12n = \frac{1}{2}n=21​

  4. Check options
