Correct answer: 1

  1. What is copper matte?

In the extraction of copper from copper pyrites, the molten mass obtained after roasting and smelting is called copper matte.

    It mainly contains: Cu2SandFeS\mathrm{Cu_2S} \quad \text{and} \quad \mathrm{FeS}Cu2SandFeS

  2. Check each given compound

    • A. CuCO3\mathrm{CuCO_3}CuCO3

Copper carbonate is not present in copper matte.

    • B. Cu2S\mathrm{Cu_2S}Cu2S

This is a main constituent of copper matte.

    • C. Cu2O\mathrm{Cu_2O}Cu2O

Cu2O\mathrm{Cu_2O}Cu2O is formed in later stages (during conversion/self-reduction), but it is not a constituent of copper matte.

    • D. FeO\mathrm{FeO}FeO

During smelting, FeO\mathrm{FeO}FeO reacts with silica to form slag: FeO+SiO2→FeSiO3\mathrm{FeO + SiO_2 \rightarrow FeSiO_3}FeO+SiO2→FeSiO3 Hence, FeO\mathrm{FeO}FeO is not present in copper matte.

  3. Count the compounds present in copper matte

    Only Cu2S\mathrm{Cu_2S}Cu2S is present.

Therefore, the required number is: 111
