Correct answer: 1

  1. We first identify the Werner coordination formulas for each compound.

For cobalt(III), the coordination number is typically 666.

  1. Analyze each complex.

(a) CoCl3⋅4NH3CoCl_3\cdot 4NH_3CoCl3⋅4NH3

This corresponds to the complex: [Co(NH3)4Cl2]Cl[Co(NH_3)_4Cl_2]Cl[Co(NH3)4Cl2]Cl Here, the coordination sphere has 4NH34NH_34NH3 and 2Cl−2Cl^-2Cl−, i.e. an octahedral complex of type: [MA4B2][MA_4B_2][MA4B2] Such octahedral complexes show cis-trans isomerism.

So, (a) shows cis-trans isomerism.

(b) CoCl3⋅5NH3CoCl_3\cdot 5NH_3CoCl3⋅5NH3

This corresponds to: [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2[Co(NH_3)_5Cl]Cl_2[Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2 This is an octahedral complex of type: [MA5B][MA_5B][MA5B] Such complexes do not show cis-trans isomerism because there is only one ligand of type BBB.

So, (b) does not show cis-trans isomerism.

(c) CoCl3⋅6NH3CoCl_3\cdot 6NH_3CoCl3⋅6NH3

This corresponds to: [Co(NH3)6]Cl3[Co(NH_3)_6]Cl_3[Co(NH3)6]Cl3 This is of type: [MA6][MA_6][MA6] All ligands are identical, so no geometrical isomerism is possible.

So, (c) does not show cis-trans isomerism.

(d) CoCl(NO3)2⋅5NH3CoCl(NO_3)_2\cdot 5NH_3CoCl(NO3)2⋅5NH3

Total anions outside/inside must satisfy coordination number 666 for Co(III)Co(III)Co(III). This gives the complex as: [Co(NH3)5Cl](NO3)2[Co(NH_3)_5Cl](NO_3)_2[Co(NH3)5Cl](NO3)2 or [Co(NH3)5(NO3)]Cl(NO3)[Co(NH_3)_5(NO_3)]Cl(NO_3)[Co(NH3)5(NO3)]Cl(NO3) But in either case, the coordination sphere is of type [MA5B][MA_5B][MA5B].

An octahedral [MA5B][MA_5B][MA5B] complex does not show cis-trans isomerism.

So, (d) does not show cis-trans isomerism.

  1. Count the number of complexes showing cis-trans form.

Only (a) shows cis-trans isomerism.

Therefore, the required number is: 1\boxed{1}1
