  1. Identify the orbitals from the quantum numbers

Given electrons:

    This is a 4d4d4d electron.

  • IV: 3p⇒n+l=3+1=43p \Rightarrow n+l = 3+1 = 43p⇒n+l=3+1=4

  1. Arrange in increasing energy
  • Lowest: IV (3p3p3p), since n+l=4n+l=4n+l=4
  • Next compare II (3d3d3d) and III (4p4p4p), both have n+l=5n+l=5n+l=5
    • Lower nnn means lower energy
    • So 3d<4p3d < 4p3d<4p, i.e. II < III
  • Highest: I (4d4d4d), since n+l=6n+l=6n+l=6

Therefore,
