Given below are two statement : one is labelled as Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R : Assertion A : Size of Bk3+Bk^{3+}Bk3+ ion is less than Np3+Np^{3+}Np3+ ion. Reason R : The above is a consequence of the lanthanoid contraction. In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

    We need to compare the sizes of: Bk3+andNp3+Bk^{3+} \quad \text{and} \quad Np^{3+}Bk3+andNp3+

    Here:

    • NpNpNp = Neptunium, an early actinide
    • BkBkBk = Berkelium, a later actinide
  2. Use the actinoid contraction trend

    Across the actinoid series, the ionic radii of ions of the same charge generally decrease with increasing atomic number. This is called actinoid contraction.
