Correct answer: B

Clearly, 2Ω\Omega Ω , 4Ω\Omega Ω and ( 1 + 5) Ω\Omega Ω resistors are in parallel. Hence, potential difference is same across each of them.

∴\therefore∴ I1 × 2 = I2 × 4 = I3 × 6

AIPMT 2008 Physics - Current Electricity Question 71 English Explanation

Given I1 = 3A    ∴\therefore∴ I1 × 2 = I3 × 6

Given I1 = 3A.

∴\therefore∴ I1 × 2 = I3 × 6 provides

I3=I1×26=3×26=1A{I_3} = {{{I_1} \times 2} \over 6} = {{3 \times 2} \over 6} = 1AI3=6I1×2=63×2=1A

Now, the potential across the 5Ω\OmegaΩ resistor is
V = I3 × 5 = 1 × 5 = 5V.

∴\therefore∴ the power dissipated in the 5Ω\OmegaΩ resistor

P=V2R=525=5 watt.P = {{{V^2}} \over R} = {{{5^2}} \over 5} = 5\,watt.P=RV2=552=5watt.
