NEETChemistryChemical KineticsMCQ+4 / −1
The rate constants k1 and k2 for two different reactions are 1016 ⋅\cdot⋅ e−-−2000/T and 1015 ⋅\cdot⋅ e−-−1000/T, respectively.
The temperature at which k1 = k2 is
  1. A
    2000 K
  2. B
    10002.303K{{1000} \over {2.303}}K2.3031000K
  3. C
    1000 K
  4. D

Correct answer: B

k1 = 1016 e−2000T{e^{ - {{2000} \over T}}}e−T2000

k2 = 1015 e−1000T{e^{ - {{1000} \over T}}}e−T1000

On taking log of both the equations, we get

log⁡k1=16−20002.303T\log {k_1} = 16 - {{2000} \over {2.303T}}logk1=16−2.303T2000

log⁡k2=15−10002.303T\log {k_2} = 15 - {{1000} \over {2.303T}}logk2=15−2.303T1000

As k1 = k2

16−20002.303T16 - {{2000} \over {2.303T}}16−2.303T2000 = 15−10002.303T15 - {{1000} \over {2.303T}}15−2.303T1000

⇒\Rightarrow⇒ T = 10002.303K{{1000} \over {2.303}}K2.3031000K
