  1. Use Henry’s law concept

    Henry’s law can be written as p=KHxp = K_H xp=KH​x where:

    • ppp = partial pressure of gas,
    • xxx = mole fraction of gas dissolved in water,
    • KHK_HKH​ = Henry’s law constant.
  2. Relation between solubility and KHK_HKH​

    For a given pressure, x=pKHx = \frac{p}{K_H}x=KH​p​ So, larger KHK_HKH​ means smaller solubility.

  3. Effect of temperature on gas solubility in water

    Dissolution of most gases in water is exothermic. Therefore, when temperature increases, gas solubility decreases.

    Since solubility decreases with temperature, and x∝1KH,x \propto \frac{1}{K_H},x∝KH​1​, it follows that KHK_HKH​ increases with temperature.

    Therefore, the correct plot of KHK_HKH​ versus temperature must show an increasing trend with temperature.
