JEE MainChemistryChemical Kinetics and Nuclear ChemistryMCQ+4 / −1
Consider the following reactions A →\to→ P1P_1P1 ; B →\to→ P2P_2P2 ; C →\to→ P3P_3P3 ; D →\to→ P4P_4P4, The order of the above reactions are a, b, c, and d, respectively. The following graph is obtained when log[rate] vs. log[conc.] are plotted JEE Main 2020 (Online) 6th September Morning Slot Chemistry - Chemical Kinetics and Nuclear Chemistry Question 121 English Among the following, the correct sequence for the order of the reactions is :
  1. A
    d > b > a > c
  2. B
    d > a > b > c
  3. C
    a > b > c > d
  4. D
    c > a > b > d

Correct answer: A

  1. For a reaction with rate law rate=k[conc.]n\text{rate} = k [\text{conc.}]^nrate=k[conc.]n taking logarithm gives: log⁡(rate)=log⁡k+nlog⁡(conc.)\log(\text{rate}) = \log k + n\log(\text{conc.})log(rate)=logk+nlog(conc.)

  2. Thus, in a plot of log⁡(rate)\log(\text{rate})log(rate) vs. log⁡(conc.)\log(\text{conc.})log(conc.):

    • the slope of the line = order of reaction.
  3. Therefore, to compare the orders a,b,c,da,b,c,da,b,c,d, we only need to compare the slopes of the four lines corresponding to reactions:

    • A→P1A \to P_1A→P1 has order aaa
    • B→P2B \to P_2B→P2 has order bbb
    • C→P3C \to P_3C→P3 has order ccc
    • D→P4D \to P_4D→P4 has order ddd
  4. From the given graph, the line for reaction DDD has the greatest slope, followed by BBB, then AAA, and finally CCC with the least slope.

  5. Hence, d>b>a>cd > b > a > cd>b>a>c

  6. Comparing with the options:

    • Option A: d>b>a>cd > b > a > cd>b>a>c ✅
    • Option B: d>a>b>cd > a > b > cd>a>b>c ❌
    • Option C: a>b>c>da > b > c > da>b>c>d ❌
    • Option D: c>a>b>dc > a > b > dc>a>b>d ❌

Therefore, the correct answer is Option A.
