Correct answer: C

  1. Principle involved

In both TLC and column chromatography using silica gel as stationary phase:

    • Silica gel is polar.
    • Less polar compounds interact less with silica and move faster.
    • More polar compounds interact more strongly and move slower.
  2. Relation between TLC and column chromatography

    In TLC on silica:

    • Higher spot on the plate ⇒\Rightarrow⇒ larger RfR_fRf value ⇒\Rightarrow⇒ weaker adsorption on silica ⇒\Rightarrow⇒ less polar.
    • Lower spot on the plate ⇒\Rightarrow⇒ smaller RfR_fRf value ⇒\Rightarrow⇒ stronger adsorption on silica ⇒\Rightarrow⇒ more polar.

    In silica gel column chromatography:

    • The compound with largest RfR_fRf in TLC elutes first.
    • The compound with smallest RfR_fRf elutes last.
  3. Reading the TLC observation

From the given TLC figure, the spots are ordered by height as:

    A highest,C middle,B lowestA \text{ highest},\quad C \text{ middle},\quad B \text{ lowest}A highest,C middle,B lowest

    Therefore,

    Rf(A)>Rf(C)>Rf(B)R_f(A) > R_f(C) > R_f(B)Rf(A)>Rf(C)>Rf(B)

  4. Convert this to order of elution in silica gel column

Since higher RfR_fRf means earlier elution:

    A elutes first,C second,B lastA \text{ elutes first},\quad C \text{ second},\quad B \text{ last}A elutes first,C second,B last

    So the elution order is:

    A, C, BA,\ C,\ BA, C, B

  5. Check options

    • A: B,A,CB, A, CB,A,C ❌
    • B: C,A,BC, A, BC,A,B ❌
    • C: A,C,BA, C, BA,C,B ✅
    • D: B,C,AB, C, AB,C,A ❌
  6. Comparison with stored answer

Our derived answer is Option C.

Stored correct answer is also C.

    Hence, they agree.
