A soap bubble, having radius of 1 mm, is blown from a detergent solution having a surface tension of 2.5 ×\times× 10–2 N/m. The pressure inside the bubble equals at a point Z0 below the free surface of water in a container. Taking g = 10 m/s2, density of water = 103 kg/m3, the value of Z0 is :
  1. A
    1 cm
  2. B
    10 cm
  3. C
    100 cm
  4. D
    0.5 cm

Correct answer: A

P = P0 + ρ\rho ρgZ0 .........(i)

Also, P = P0 + 4TR{{4T} \over R}R4T .....(ii)

From (i) and (ii),

ρ\rho ρgZ0 = 4TR{{4T} \over R}R4T

∴\therefore∴ Z0 = 4TρgR{{4T} \over {\rho gR}}ρgR4T

= 4×2.5×10−2103×10×10−3{{4 \times 2.5 \times {{10}^{ - 2}}} \over {{{10}^3} \times 10 \times {{10}^{ - 3}}}}103×10×10−34×2.5×10−2

= 10-2 m = 1 cm
