Δ\Delta ΔG = Δ\Delta ΔH – TΔ\Delta ΔS

For a reaction to become spontaneous, Δ\Delta ΔG must be negative.

For case (a) exothermic and increasing disorder

For exothermic reaction,

Δ\Delta ΔH = –ve and increasing disorder,

Δ\Delta ΔS = +ve

Δ\Delta ΔG = –ve –T(+ve)

Thus, Δ\Delta ΔG is negative for all temperature range

For case (b) exothermic and decreasing disorder For exothermic reaction, Δ\Delta ΔH = –ve and for decreasing disorder,

Δ\Delta ΔS = –ve

⇒\Rightarrow⇒ Δ\Delta ΔG = –ve – T(–ve)

Thus, Δ\Delta ΔG is not negative for all temperature range.
