Moleculer orbital configuration of C2C_2C2​

= σ1s2 σ1s2∗ σ2s2 σ2s2∗ π2px2 = π2py2{\sigma _{1{s^2}}}\,\sigma _{1{s^2}}^ * \,{\sigma _{2{s^2}}}\,\sigma _{2{s^2}}^ * \,{\pi _{2p_x^2}}\, = \,{\pi _{2p_y^2}}σ1s2​σ1s2∗​σ2s2​σ2s2∗​π2px2​​=π2py2​​

Here no unpaired electron present, so it is diamagnetic.

Here, Bond order = 8−42{{8 - 4} \over 2}28−4​ = 2. So here two bonds are present. For this two bond formation 4 electrons are required which is present in π2px2 {\pi _{2p_x^2}}\, π2px2​​ and  π2py2 \,{\pi _{2p_y^2}}π2py2​​

So, in C2 molecule, only π\pi π electron occupied the bonding molecular orbital.
