  1. Pressure applied by the piston

When a mass mmm is placed on the massless piston of area aaa, the अतिरिक्त pressure transmitted to the liquid is

P=mga.P = \frac{mg}{a}.P=amg​.

By Pascal's law, this pressure is transmitted equally throughout the liquid, so the sphere experiences a uniform external pressure

ΔP=mga.\Delta P = \frac{mg}{a}.ΔP=amg​.
  1. Use bulk modulus definition

Bulk modulus is defined as

K=−ΔPΔV/V.K = -\frac{\Delta P}{\Delta V/V}.K=−ΔV/VΔP​.

So, in magnitude,

For a sphere,

Differentiating,

dV=4πr2 dr.dV = 4\pi r^2 \, dr.dV=4πr2dr.

Hence,

dVV=4πr2dr43πr3=3drr.\frac{dV}{V} = \frac{4\pi r^2 dr}{\frac{4}{3}\pi r^3} = 3\frac{dr}{r}.VdV​=34​πr34πr2dr​=3rdr​.

Thus,

So the fractional decrement in radius (magnitude) is
