Correct answer: D

  1. Take upward direction as positive.
When a body is thrown vertically upward with initial velocity uuu, the only acceleration acting on it is gravity downward.

  2. Acceleration is constant and negative.
    Hence, a=−ga=-ga=−g

  3. Use the first equation of motion.
Velocity after time ttt is v=u+at=u−gtv=u+at=u-gtv=u+at=u−gt

  4. Interpret the equation of the graph.
The equation v=u−gtv=u-gtv=u−gt is a straight line in the vvv-ttt graph with:

    • intercept on velocity axis =u=u=u
    • constant slope =−g=-g=−g
  5. Important features of the graph.

    • At t=0t=0t=0, v=u>0v=u>0v=u>0
    • As time increases, velocity decreases linearly
    • At the highest point, v=0v=0v=0
    • After that, velocity becomes negative
  6. Therefore:
The correct vvv vs ttt graph must be a straight line sloping downward uniformly, crossing the time axis once.

So, the correct option is D.
