Four identical long solenoids A, B, C and D are connected to each other as shown in the figure. If the magnetic field at the center of A is 3T, the field at the center of C would be : (Assume that the magnetic field is confined with in the volume of respective solenoid). Correct answer: D

  1. Magnetic field inside a long solenoid

For a long solenoid, B=μ0nIB = \mu_0 n IB=μ0nI where nnn is the number of turns per unit length and III is the current through the solenoid.

Since all four solenoids are identical, their magnetic fields are proportional only to the current through them: B∝IB \propto IB∝I

  1. Use the given field at solenoid A

At the center of solenoid A, BA=3 TB_A = 3\text{ T}BA=3 T So if current through A is IAI_AIA, then μ0nIA=3 T\mu_0 n I_A = 3\text{ T}μ0nIA=3 T

  1. Find the current relation from the circuit connection

From the given arrangement of four identical solenoids, solenoid AAA is in one branch while solenoid CCC carries a smaller current due to the series-parallel combination. For identical resistive solenoids, the current division gives: IC=13IAI_C = \frac{1}{3} I_AIC=31IA

Hence, BCBA=ICIA=13\frac{B_C}{B_A} = \frac{I_C}{I_A} = \frac{1}{3}BABC=IAIC=31

So, BC=13×3=1 TB_C = \frac{1}{3} \times 3 = 1\text{ T}BC=31×3=1 T

  1. Check options

Thus the magnetic field at the center of solenoid CCC is 1 T\boxed{1\text{ T}}1 T

So the correct option is D.
