Correct answer: 1

  1. Torque on a magnetic dipole

The torque on dipole m2m_2m2 placed in the magnetic field of dipole m1m_1m1 is τ=m2Bsin⁡θ\tau = m_2 B \sin\thetaτ=m2Bsinθ where θ\thetaθ is the angle between m⃗2\vec m_2m2 and the magnetic field due to m1m_1m1.

  2. Magnetic field due to a short magnetic dipole

For a dipole of magnetic moment m1m_1m1 at distance rrr on its equatorial line, the magnetic field is B=μ04πm1r3B = \frac{\mu_0}{4\pi}\frac{m_1}{r^3}B=4πμ0r3m1

    Given: m1=1 A m2,m2=1 A m2,r=OP=1 mm_1 = 1\,\text{A m}^2, \quad m_2 = 1\,\text{A m}^2, \quad r = OP = 1\,\text{m}m1=1A m2,m2=1A m2,r=OP=1m and μ04π=10−7\frac{\mu_0}{4\pi} = 10^{-7}4πμ0=10−7

    So, B=10−7⋅113=10−7 TB = 10^{-7}\cdot \frac{1}{1^3} = 10^{-7}\,\text{T}B=10−7⋅131=10−7T

  3. Maximum torque

Since only the magnitudes are given, torque is taken for the perpendicular orientation: sin⁡θ=1\sin\theta = 1sinθ=1

    Hence, τ=m2B=1×10−7=10−7 N m\tau = m_2 B = 1 \times 10^{-7} = 10^{-7}\,\text{N m}τ=m2B=1×10−7=10−7N m

  4. Required integer

    The torque is τ=1×10−7 N m\tau = 1 \times 10^{-7}\,\text{N m}τ=1×10−7N m

Therefore, the required integer is 1.
