  1. Condition for forward bias of a diode

A diode is forward biased when:

  • the p-side (anode) is connected to the positive terminal of the battery, and
  • the n-side (cathode) is connected to the negative terminal of the battery.

In circuit symbols, the side corresponding to p-side/anode must be at higher potential than the n-side/cathode.
