  1. Use zener diode regulation condition

    In breakdown region, the zener diode keeps the voltage across itself approximately constant at its zener voltage VZV_ZVZ​.

    Let the supply voltage be VVV, series resistance be RRR, and load resistance be RLR_LRL​.

    Then:

    \frac{V-V_Z}{R}$$ is the current through the series resistor.
  2. Load current

    Since the load is parallel to the zener diode, the voltage across the load is also VZV_ZVZ​.

    Hence, IL=VZRLI_L=\frac{V_Z}{R_L}IL​=RL​VZ​​

  3. Zener current

    The current through the series resistor splits into load current and zener current: I=IL+IZI=I_L+I_ZI=IL​+IZ​ so, IZ=I−ILI_Z=I-I_LIZ​=I−IL​

  4. Substituting the values from the circuit

    From the given circuit values, I=5.8 mAI=5.8\text{ mA}I=5.8 mA and IL=2.5 mAI_L=2.5\text{ mA}IL​=2.5 mA

    Therefore, IZ=5.8−2.5=3.3 mAI_Z=5.8-2.5=3.3\text{ mA}IZ​=5.8−2.5=3.3 mA

  5. Match with options
