  1. Interpret the path A→B→A→BA \to B \to A \to BA→B→A→B on a circular track

    In such standard circular-motion questions, points AAA and BBB are taken as diametrically opposite ends of the circular track.

    • Going from AAA to BBB along the track means covering a semicircle.
    • Length of one semicircle = half the circumference: 12(2πr)=πr\frac{1}{2}(2\pi r)=\pi r21​(2πr)=πr
  2. Total distance travelled

    The sportsman moves:

    • A→BA \to BA→B : πr\pi rπr
    • B→AB \to AB→A : πr\pi rπr
    • A→BA \to BA→B : πr\pi rπr

    Therefore, total distance is πr+πr+πr=3πr\pi r+\pi r+\pi r=3\pi rπr+πr+πr=3πr

    Initial position = AAA

    Final position = BBB
