A curved in a level road has a radius 75 m. The maximum speed of a car turning this curved road can be 30 m/s without skidding. If radius of curved road is changed to 48 m and the coefficient of friction between the tyres and the road remains same, then maximum allowed speed would be m/s.

Correct answer: 24
- Use the condition for maximum speed on a level curved road
For a car moving on a level circular road, friction provides the required centripetal force.
So at the maximum speed without skidding,
Cancelling ,
Hence,
This shows that for the same coefficient of friction ,
- Relate the two cases
Given:
- Initial radius:
- Initial maximum speed:
- New radius:
Using
So,
- Simplify the fraction
Therefore,
- Final Answer
So the maximum allowed speed is 24 m/s.
