Correct answer: A

  1. Understand the setup

A block moves in a horizontal circular groove and touches the vertical wall of the groove.

    • The wall exerts a normal reaction NNN horizontally toward the center of the circular path.
    • Since the groove is smooth, there is no friction.
    • Vertically, the weight mgmgmg is balanced by the normal reaction from the bottom surface, so vertical motion is irrelevant here.
  2. Identify the force providing centripetal acceleration

For circular motion of radius rrr, the required centripetal force is Fc=mv2r.F_c = \frac{mv^2}{r}.Fc=rmv2.

The only horizontal radial force is the normal reaction by the vertical wall. Hence, N=mv2r.N = \frac{mv^2}{r}.N=rmv2.

  3. Relation between NNN and vvv

    Therefore, N∝v2.N \propto v^2.N∝v2.

So the graph of NNN versus vvv is:

    • passing through the origin,
    • increasing with vvv,
    • a parabola opening upward.
  4. Choose the correct option

The correct curve is the one representing N=mrv2.N = \frac{m}{r}v^2.N=rmv2.

    That corresponds to Option A.

  5. Comparison with stored answer

    Stored correct answer: A

    Derived answer: A

    Hence, they agree.
