Correct answer: A

  1. Use AC circuit phase relations

For a series LCRLCRLCR circuit, the net reactance is X=XL−XC=ωL−1ωC.X = X_L - X_C = \omega L - \frac{1}{\omega C}.X=XL−XC=ωL−ωC1.

  • If XL>XCX_L > X_CXL>XC, the circuit is inductive.
  • If XL<XCX_L < X_CXL<XC, the circuit is capacitive.
  • If XL=XCX_L = X_CXL=XC, the circuit is at resonance.

Also:

  • In an inductive circuit, current lags behind emf.
  • In a capacitive circuit, current leads the emf.
  • At resonance, impedance is minimum, so maximum current occurs.
  • At resonance, current and emf are in phase.

  1. Match each item

(a) ωL>1ωC\omega L > \dfrac{1}{\omega C}ωL>ωC1

This means XL>XCX_L > X_CXL>XC, so the circuit is inductive. Hence, current lags behind the applied emf.

So, (a)→(ii)(a) \to (ii)(a)→(ii)

(b) ωL=1ωC\omega L = \dfrac{1}{\omega C}ωL=ωC1

This is the resonance condition. At resonance, current is in phase with emf.

So, (b)→(i)(b) \to (i)(b)→(i)

(c) ωL<1ωC\omega L < \dfrac{1}{\omega C}ωL<ωC1

This means XC>XLX_C > X_LXC>XL, so the circuit is capacitive. Hence, current leads the emf.

So, (c)→(iv)(c) \to (iv)(c)→(iv)

(d) Resonant frequency

At resonant frequency, impedance is minimum and current is maximum.

So, (d)→(iii)(d) \to (iii)(d)→(iii)

  1. Final matching

The correct matching is: a(ii), b(i), c(iv), d(iii)a(ii),\ b(i),\ c(iv),\ d(iii)a(ii), b(i), c(iv), d(iii)

This corresponds to Option A.

  1. Comparison with stored answer
