Correct answer: D

  1. Given line

    x+by+c=0x + by + c = 0x+by+c=0

We need the triangle formed by this line with the coordinate axes.

  2. Intercepts of the line

    • On the xxx-axis, y=0y=0y=0: x+c=0⇒x=−cx + c = 0 \Rightarrow x = -cx+c=0⇒x=−c
    • On the yyy-axis, x=0x=0x=0: by+c=0⇒y=−cbby + c = 0 \Rightarrow y = -\frac{c}{b}by+c=0⇒y=−bc

So the area of the triangle formed with the axes is 12∣(−c)(−cb)∣=48\frac{1}{2}\left|(-c)\left(-\frac{c}{b}\right)\right| = 4821(−c)(−bc)=48

    Hence, 12∣c2b∣=48\frac{1}{2}\left|\frac{c^2}{b}\right| = 4821bc2=48 ∣c2b∣=96\left|\frac{c^2}{b}\right| = 96bc2=96 c2=96∣b∣c^2 = 96|b|c2=96∣b∣

  3. Condition on the perpendicular from origin

    For the line x+by+c=0,x + by + c = 0,x+by+c=0, a normal vector is (1,b)(1,b)(1,b).

The perpendicular from the origin to the line is along this normal, so its slope is bbb.

    It makes an angle 45∘45^\circ45∘ with the positive xxx-axis, so tan⁡45∘=1⇒b=1\tan 45^\circ = 1 \Rightarrow b = 1tan45∘=1⇒b=1

(If the line had made angle 135∘135^\circ135∘, then slope would be −1-1−1, but the question says 45∘45^\circ45∘ with positive xxx-axis.)

  4. Find c2c^2c2

    Using b=1b=1b=1 in c2=96∣b∣,c^2 = 96|b|,c2=96∣b∣, we get c2=96c^2 = 96c2=96

  5. Compute b2+c2b^2 + c^2b2+c2

    b2+c2=12+96=97b^2 + c^2 = 1^2 + 96 = 97b2+c2=12+96=97

  6. Check options

    • A: 909090 ❌
    • B: 838383 ❌
    • C: 939393 ❌
    • D: 979797 ✅

Therefore, the correct answer is D.
