Correct answer: 34

  1. Find the mass fraction of bromine in silver bromide

Silver bromide is AgBr\text{AgBr}AgBr.

Molar mass of AgBr\text{AgBr}AgBr: 108+80=188108 + 80 = 188108+80=188

Out of 188188188 g of AgBr\text{AgBr}AgBr, bromine contributes 808080 g.

So, mass of bromine in 0.400.400.40 g of AgBr\text{AgBr}AgBr is: mBr=0.40×80188m_{\text{Br}} = 0.40 \times \frac{80}{188}mBr=0.40×18880

  1. Calculate the bromine mass

mBr=0.40×80188=32188≈0.1702 gm_{\text{Br}} = 0.40 \times \frac{80}{188} = \frac{32}{188} \approx 0.1702\text{ g}mBr=0.40×18880=18832≈0.1702 g

  1. Calculate percentage of bromine in the organic compound

Given mass of organic compound =0.50= 0.50=0.50 g.

Therefore, %Br=0.17020.50×100\%\text{Br} = \frac{0.1702}{0.50} \times 100%Br=0.500.1702×100

%Br=34.04%\%\text{Br} = 34.04\%%Br=34.04%

  1. Nearest integer

34\boxed{34}34

  1. Comparison with stored answer

Stored correct answer = 343434.

Our derived answer also is 343434, so they agree.
