Correct answer: C

  1. Check statement (A): NF3NF_3NF3 molecule has a trigonal planar structure

Nitrogen in NF3NF_3NF3 has 5 valence electrons.

    • It forms 3 bonds with 3 fluorine atoms.
    • One lone pair remains on nitrogen.

So, the electron pair geometry is tetrahedral, and the molecular shape is trigonal pyramidal, not trigonal planar.

    Hence, (A) is false.

  2. Check statement (B): Bond length of N2N_2N2 is shorter than O2O_2O2

    Using molecular orbital theory:

    • For N2N_2N2, bond order =3= 3=3
    • For O2O_2O2, bond order =2= 2=2

Greater bond order implies stronger and shorter bond.

    Therefore,

    Bond length of N2<Bond length of O2\text{Bond length of } N_2 < \text{Bond length of } O_2Bond length of N2<Bond length of O2

    Hence, (B) is true.

  3. Check statement (C): Isoelectronic molecules or ions have identical bond order

Isoelectronic species have the same total number of electrons, and for diatomic species with similar MO filling pattern, they have the same bond order.

    For example:

    • N2N_2N2 has 14 electrons, bond order =3= 3=3
    • COCOCO has 14 electrons, bond order =3= 3=3
    • CN−CN^-CN− has 14 electrons, bond order =3= 3=3

Thus, this statement is taken as true in standard JEE context.

    Hence, (C) is true.

  4. Check statement (D): Dipole moment of H2SH_2SH2S is higher than that of water molecule

    Known dipole moments:

    • μ(H2O)≈1.85 D\mu(H_2O) \approx 1.85\,Dμ(H2O)≈1.85D
    • μ(H2S)≈0.95 D\mu(H_2S) \approx 0.95\,Dμ(H2S)≈0.95D

    Therefore,

    μ(H2S)<μ(H2O)\mu(H_2S) < \mu(H_2O)μ(H2S)<μ(H2O)

    Hence, (D) is false.

  5. Final evaluation of options

    • (A) false
    • (B) true
    • (C) true
    • (D) false

So the correct statements are (B) and (C).

Therefore, the correct option is C.
