Correct answer: 8

  1. Identify the coordination mode of EDTA4−EDTA^{4-}EDTA4−

EDTA4−EDTA^{4-}EDTA4− is a hexadentate ligand. It binds to the metal ion through:

    • 222 nitrogen donor atoms
    • 444 oxygen donor atoms

So in [Co(EDTA)]−[Co(EDTA)]^-[Co(EDTA)]−, cobalt is 6-coordinate, giving an octahedral arrangement around Co.

  2. Count possible N−Co−ON-Co-ON−Co−O bond angles

We need the number of bond angles of the type N−Co−ON-Co-ON−Co−O.

    Since there are:

    • 222 nitrogen atoms
    • 444 oxygen atoms

each nitrogen can form an angle at Co with each oxygen.

    Therefore total number of distinct N−Co−ON-Co-ON−Co−O angles is: 2×4=82 \times 4 = 82×4=8

  3. Why no further distinction is needed

In an octahedral complex, some such angles may be 90∘90^\circ90∘ and some may be 180∘180^\circ180∘, but the question asks for the total number of N−Co−ON-Co-ON−Co−O bond angles, not only one specific value.

Hence we count all nitrogen–cobalt–oxygen combinations.

  4. Final answer

    8\boxed{8}8
