  1. Write the two waves in comparable form

Given: y1=10sin⁡(ωt+π3) cmy_1=10\sin\left(\omega t+\frac{\pi}{3}\right)\text{ cm}y1=10sin(ωt+3π) cm y2=5[sin⁡ωt+3cos⁡ωt] cmy_2=5[\sin\omega t+\sqrt{3}\cos\omega t]\text{ cm}y2=5[sinωt+3cosωt] cm

We first simplify y2y_2y2.

Recall: sin⁡(θ+ϕ)=sin⁡θcos⁡ϕ+cos⁡θsin⁡ϕ\sin(\theta+\phi)=\sin\theta\cos\phi+\cos\theta\sin\phisin(θ+ϕ)=sinθcosϕ+cosθsinϕ

Take ϕ=π3\phi=\frac{\pi}{3}ϕ=3π, then sin⁡(ωt+π3)=sin⁡ωt⋅12+cos⁡ωt⋅32\sin\left(\omega t+\frac{\pi}{3}\right)=\sin\omega t\cdot \frac{1}{2}+\cos\omega t\cdot \frac{\sqrt{3}}{2}sin(ωt+3π)=sinωt⋅21+cosωt⋅23

Multiplying by 101010: 10sin⁡(ωt+π3)=5sin⁡ωt+53cos⁡ωt10\sin\left(\omega t+\frac{\pi}{3}\right)=5\sin\omega t+5\sqrt{3}\cos\omega t10sin(ωt+3π)=5sinωt+53cosωt

But y2=5sin⁡ωt+53cos⁡ωty_2=5\sin\omega t+5\sqrt{3}\cos\omega ty2=5sinωt+53cosωt

So, y2=10sin⁡(ωt+π3)y_2=10\sin\left(\omega t+\frac{\pi}{3}\right)y2=10sin(ωt+3π)

  1. Compare y1y_1y1 and y2y_2y2

Now, y1=10sin⁡(ωt+π3)y_1=10\sin\left(\omega t+\frac{\pi}{3}\right)y1=10sin(ωt+3π) y2=10sin⁡(ωt+π3)y_2=10\sin\left(\omega t+\frac{\pi}{3}\right)y2=10sin(ωt+3π)

Thus both waves are identical and are in the same phase.

  1. Resultant amplitude

When two waves of amplitudes A1A_1A1 and A2A_2A2 are in phase, resultant amplitude is: A=A1+A2A=A_1+A_2A=A1+A2

Here, A=10+10=20 cmA=10+10=20\text{ cm}A=10+10=20 cm

  1. Final answer

The amplitude of the resultant wave is: 20 cm\boxed{20\text{ cm}}20 cm
