Correct answer: A

  1. Given wave equation

    The transverse wave is y=2sin⁡(ωt−kx) cmy = 2\sin(\omega t-kx)\ \text{cm}y=2sin(ωt−kx) cm

    Comparing with the standard form y=Asin⁡(ωt−kx),y = A\sin(\omega t-kx),y=Asin(ωt−kx), we get amplitude A=2 cm.A = 2\ \text{cm}.A=2 cm.

  2. Wave velocity

    The wave speed is v=ωk.v = \frac{\omega}{k}.v=kω.

    Also, since k=2πλ,k = \frac{2\pi}{\lambda},k=λ2π, therefore v=ω2π/λ=ωλ2π.v = \frac{\omega}{2\pi/\lambda} = \frac{\omega\lambda}{2\pi}.v=2π/λω=2πωλ.

  3. Maximum particle velocity

    Particle velocity is the transverse velocity of a medium particle: vp=∂y∂t=2ωcos⁡(ωt−kx).v_p = \frac{\partial y}{\partial t} = 2\omega \cos(\omega t-kx).vp=∂t∂y=2ωcos(ωt−kx).

Hence, maximum particle velocity is vp,max⁡=2ω.v_{p,\max} = 2\omega.vp,max=2ω.

  4. Condition given in the question

Wave velocity becomes equal to maximum particle velocity: v=vp,max⁡.v = v_{p,\max}.v=vp,max.

    So, ωλ2π=2ω.\frac{\omega\lambda}{2\pi} = 2\omega.2πωλ=2ω.

  5. Solve for wavelength

    Cancel ω\omegaω from both sides: λ2π=2\frac{\lambda}{2\pi} = 22πλ=2 λ=4π cm.\lambda = 4\pi\ \text{cm}.λ=4π cm.

  6. Check options

    • A: 4π4\pi4π ✅
    • B: 2π2\pi2π ❌
    • C: π\piπ ❌
    • D: 222 ❌

Therefore, the correct answer is A.
