  1. Statement I: For diamagnetic substance, −1≤χ-1 \leq \chi−1≤χ

    Magnetic susceptibility χ\chiχ for a diamagnetic substance is negative.

    Also, for a linear magnetic material, μr=1+χ\mu_r = 1 + \chiμr​=1+χ where μr\mu_rμr​ is the relative permeability.

    Since physical magnetic permeability cannot be negative for ordinary materials, we require μr≥0\mu_r \ge 0μr​≥0 Hence, 1+χ≥0  ⟹  χ≥−11 + \chi \ge 0 \implies \chi \ge -11+χ≥0⟹χ≥−1

    For diamagnetic substances, therefore, −1≤χ<0-1 \le \chi < 0−1≤χ<0 So Statement I is true.

  2. Statement II: Diamagnetic substances in an external magnetic field tend to move from stronger to weaker part of the field

    Diamagnetic substances are weakly repelled by a magnetic field because their induced magnetic moment is opposite to the applied field.

    Therefore, in a non-uniform magnetic field, they move toward the region where the field is weaker.

    So Statement II is also true.
