  1. Meter bridge balance condition

In a meter bridge, if the null point is at length lll from one end, then

R1R2=l100−l\frac{R_1}{R_2} = \frac{l}{100-l}R2​R1​​=100−ll​

where R1R_1R1​ and R2R_2R2​ are the resistances in the two gaps corresponding to the segments lll and 100−l100-l100−l.

Given null point at 20 cm20\,\text{cm}20cm from the same end.

So,

XY=2080=14\frac{X}{Y} = \frac{20}{80} = \frac{1}{4}YX​=8020​=41​

Thus,

Y=4XY = 4XY=4X

This is consistent with the given condition X<YX<YX<Y.

Now we balance 4X4X4X against YYY.
