Correct answer: D

  1. Key idea at the instant the key is closed

For an initially uncharged capacitor, at the moment just after closing the key, the capacitor behaves like a short circuit.

    That means:

    • voltage across capacitor is initially zero,
    • current in the circuit is initially maximum.
  2. Check each statement

Statement A: There will be no current through resistor RRR.

    This is false.

At t=0+t=0^+t=0+, since the capacitor behaves like a wire, the circuit current is maximum, and hence current does pass through the resistor in the charging circuit.

Statement B: There will be maximum current in the connecting wires.

    This is true.

Initially, capacitor offers zero opposition to change in charge, so the charging current is maximum: I(0)=VRI(0)=\frac{V}{R}I(0)=RV (for a simple RC circuit).

Statement C: Potential difference between the capacitor plates A and B is minimum.

    This is true.

Initially the capacitor is uncharged, so VC(0)=0V_C(0)=0VC(0)=0 which is the minimum possible value.

Statement D: Charge on the capacitor plates is minimum.

    This is true.

Initially, Q(0)=CVC(0)=0Q(0)=CV_C(0)=0Q(0)=CVC(0)=0 so the charge is minimum.

  3. Correct set of statements

    True statements are: B, C, DB,\ C,\ DB, C, D

  4. Match with options

    • A: A,CA, CA,C only → incorrect
    • B: C,DC, DC,D only → incorrect
    • C: A,B,DA, B, DA,B,D only → incorrect
    • D: B,C,DB, C, DB,C,D only → correct

Therefore, the correct option is D.
