Correct answer: 1125

  1. Find the molecular formula of N,NN,NN,N-dimethylaminopentane.

Pentyl group attached to nitrogen: C5H11C_5H_{11}C5H11

    Two methyl groups on nitrogen: 2×CH3=C2H62 \times CH_3 = C_2H_62×CH3=C2H6

    So total formula is: C7H17NC_7H_{17}NC7H17N

  2. Find molar mass of C7H17NC_7H_{17}NC7H17N: 7×12+17×1+14=84+17+14=115 g mol−17\times 12 + 17\times 1 + 14 = 84 + 17 + 14 = 115\,\text{g mol}^{-1}7×12+17×1+14=84+17+14=115g mol−1

  3. Moles of compound in 57.5 g57.5\,\text{g}57.5g: 57.5115=0.5 mol\frac{57.5}{115} = 0.5\,\text{mol}11557.5=0.5mol

  4. Combustion equation in Dumas method

In Dumas method, the organic compound is heated with excess CuOCuOCuO. Carbon forms CO2CO_2CO2, hydrogen forms H2OH_2OH2O, and nitrogen is liberated as N2N_2N2.

    Let: C7H17N+xCuO→7CO2+172H2O+12N2+xCuC_7H_{17}N + xCuO \rightarrow 7CO_2 + \frac{17}{2}H_2O + \frac{1}{2}N_2 + xCuC7H17N+xCuO→7CO2+217H2O+21N2+xCu

  5. Balance oxygen atoms on products side:

    Oxygen needed for 7CO27CO_27CO2: 7×2=147\times 2 = 147×2=14

    Oxygen needed for 172H2O\frac{17}{2}H_2O217H2O: 172\frac{17}{2}217

    Total oxygen atoms needed: 14+172=28+172=45214 + \frac{17}{2} = \frac{28+17}{2} = \frac{45}{2}14+217=228+17=245

    Hence, x=452x = \frac{45}{2}x=245

    So, C7H17N+452CuO→7CO2+172H2O+12N2+452CuC_7H_{17}N + \frac{45}{2}CuO \rightarrow 7CO_2 + \frac{17}{2}H_2O + \frac{1}{2}N_2 + \frac{45}{2}CuC7H17N+245CuO→7CO2+217H2O+21N2+245Cu

  6. Moles of CuOCuOCuO required for 0.50.50.5 mol compound: 0.5×452=454=11.25 mol0.5 \times \frac{45}{2} = \frac{45}{4} = 11.25\,\text{mol}0.5×245=445=11.25mol

  7. The question expresses answer as: ‾×10−2\underline{\hspace{1cm}} \times 10^{-2}×10−2

    Write 11.2511.2511.25 mol in this form: 11.25=1125×10−211.25 = 1125 \times 10^{-2}11.25=1125×10−2

Therefore, the required integer is: 1125\boxed{1125}1125

  8. Comparison with stored answer

    Derived answer = 112511251125

    Stored correct answer = 112511251125

    Hence, they agree.
