Correct answer: C

  1. Principle of Kjeldahl method

In the Kjeldahl method, nitrogen present in an organic compound is converted into ammonium sulfate by heating with concentrated \ceH2SO4\ce{H2SO4}\ceH2SO4.

This method does not work when nitrogen is present in forms that are not converted to ammonium sulfate, such as:

    • nitro group: \ce−NO2\ce{-NO2}\ce−NO2
    • azo group: \ce−N=N−\ce{-N=N-}\ce−N=N−
    • nitrogen present in rings like pyridine, quinoline, etc.
  2. Identify the compounds for which Kjeldahl fails

Since the question refers to reaction products labeled (a)(a)(a), (b)(b)(b), (c)(c)(c) and (d)(d)(d), we use the standard rule above:

    • If a product contains nitrogen in ordinary amine/amide form, Kjeldahl works.
    • If a product contains nitrogen in nitro or azo form, Kjeldahl fails.
  3. Matching with the given options

From the listed answer choices, the correct set is the one containing the products with nitrogen in non-Kjeldahl-detectable form.

That set is (c)(c)(c) and (d)(d)(d).

  4. Hence

    The correct option is: C: (c) and (d)\boxed{\text{C: }(c)\text{ and }(d)}C: (c) and (d)

  5. Comparison with stored answer

    Stored correct answer = C

    Our derived answer = C

    Therefore, they agree.
