The x and y coordinates of the particle at any time are x = 5t −-− 2t2 and y = 10t respectively, where x and y are in metres and t in seconds. The acceleration of the particle at t = 2 s is
  1. A
    5 m s−-−2
  2. B
    −-−4 m s−-−2
  3. C

Correct answer: B

x = 5t −-− 2t2 and y = 10t

dxdt{{dx} \over {dt}}dtdx = 5 - 4t, dydt{{dy} \over {dt}}dtdy = 10

∴\therefore∴ vx = 5 - 4t, vy = 10

dvxdt{{d{v_x}} \over {dt}}dtdvx = - 4, dvydt{{d{v_y}} \over {dt}}dtdvy = 0

∴\therefore∴ ax{a_x}ax = - 4, ay{a_y}ay = 0

a→=axi^+ayj^\overrightarrow a = {a_x}\widehat i + {a_y}\widehat ja=axi+ayj = −4j^ - 4\widehat j−4j m/s2

∴\therefore∴ Acceleration of the particle at t = 2 s is - 4 m/s2
