The overall order of the reaction will be

Slow step is the rate determining step.

Rate = k[X][Y2] ......(i)

Equilibrium constant for fast step,

K = [X]2[X2]{{{{\left[ X \right]}^2}} \over {\left[ {{X_2}} \right]}}[X2​][X]2​

⇒\Rightarrow⇒ [X] = K[X2]\sqrt {K\left[ {{X_2}} \right]} K[X2​]​

By substituting [X] in equation (i), we get

Rate = kK[X2]\sqrt {K\left[ {{X_2}} \right]} K[X2​]​[Y2] = k' [X2]12{{{\left[ {{X_2}} \right]}^{{1 \over 2}}}}[X2​]21​[Y2]

∴\therefore∴ Order of reaction = 12+1{1 \over 2} + 121​+1 = 1.5
