Consider two physical quantities AAA and BBB related to each other as E=B−x2AtE=\frac{B-x^2}{A t}E=AtB−x2 where E,xE, xE,x and ttt have dimensions of energy, length and time respectively. The dimension of ABA BAB is

Correct answer: B

  1. Given relation

    E=B−x2AtE=\frac{B-x^2}{At}E=AtB−x2

    where:

    • [E]=[E] = [E]= energy =ML2T−2= M L^2 T^{-2}=ML2T−2
    • [x]=L[x] = L[x]=L
    • [t]=T[t] = T[t]=T
  2. Find dimension of BBB

    Since BBB and x2x^2x2 are being subtracted, they must have the same dimensions.

    [B]=[x2]=L2[B] = [x^2] = L^2[B]=[x2]=L2

  3. Use the equation to find dimension of AAA

    From E=B−x2AtE=\frac{B-x^2}{At}E=AtB−x2 dimensionally, [E]=L2[A]⋅T[E] = \frac{L^2}{[A] \cdot T}[E]=[A]⋅TL2

    Therefore, [A]=L2[E]⋅T[A] = \frac{L^2}{[E] \cdot T}[A]=[E]⋅TL2

    Substitute [E]=ML2T−2[E] = M L^2 T^{-2}[E]=ML2T−2:

    [A]=L2(ML2T−2)(T)=L2ML2T−1=M−1T1[A] = \frac{L^2}{(M L^2 T^{-2})(T)} = \frac{L^2}{M L^2 T^{-1}} = M^{-1} T^1[A]=(ML2T−2)(T)L2=ML2T−1L2=M−1T1

  4. Find dimension of ABABAB

    [AB]=[A][B]=(M−1T)(L2)=L2M−1T1[AB] = [A][B] = (M^{-1} T)(L^2) = L^2 M^{-1} T^1[AB]=[A][B]=(M−1T)(L2)=L2M−1T1

  5. Match with options

    [AB]=L2M−1T1[AB] = L^2 M^{-1} T^1[AB]=L2M−1T1

    This corresponds to Option B.
