The magnetic susceptibility of a material of a rod is 499. Permeability in vacuum is 4 π×\pi\timesπ× 10 −-− 7 H/m. Absolute permeability of the material of the rod is :
  1. A
    4 π×\pi\timesπ× 10 −-− 4 H/m
  2. B
    2 π×\pi\timesπ× 10 −-− 4 H/m
  3. C
    3 π×\pi\timesπ× 10 −-− 4 H/m
  4. D
    π×\pi\timesπ× 10 −-− 4 H/m

Correct answer: B

  1. Relation between susceptibility and permeability

For a magnetic material,

μ=μ0(1+χm)\mu = \mu_0(1+\chi_m)μ=μ0(1+χm)

where:

  • μ\muμ = absolute permeability of the material
  • μ0=4π×10−7 H/m\mu_0 = 4\pi \times 10^{-7}\ \text{H/m}μ0=4π×10−7 H/m
  • χm=499\chi_m = 499χm=499
  1. Substitute the given values
μ=4π×10−7(1+499)\mu = 4\pi \times 10^{-7}(1+499)μ=4π×10−7(1+499) μ=4π×10−7×500\mu = 4\pi \times 10^{-7} \times 500μ=4π×10−7×500
  1. Simplify
500×10−7=5×10−5500 \times 10^{-7} = 5 \times 10^{-5}500×10−7=5×10−5

So,

μ=4π×5×10−5\mu = 4\pi \times 5 \times 10^{-5}μ=4π×5×10−5 μ=20π×10−5\mu = 20\pi \times 10^{-5}μ=20π×10−5 μ=2π×10−4 H/m\mu = 2\pi \times 10^{-4}\ \text{H/m}μ=2π×10−4 H/m
  1. Match with the options
μ=2π×10−4 H/m\mu = 2\pi \times 10^{-4}\ \text{H/m}μ=2π×10−4 H/m

This corresponds to Option B.
