Correct answer: A

  1. For a thin prism, the angle of minimum deviation is approximately Dm≈(μ−1)AD_m \approx (\mu-1)ADm​≈(μ−1)A where μ\muμ is the refractive index of the prism material and AAA is the prism angle.

  2. Therefore, for a given prism, Dm∝(μ−1).D_m \propto (\mu-1).Dm​∝(μ−1). So the variation of DmD_mDm​ with wavelength λ\lambdaλ will follow the same trend as the variation of refractive index μ\muμ with λ\lambdaλ.

  3. For crown glass under normal dispersion, refractive index decreases as wavelength increases: λ↑  ⇒  μ↓\lambda \uparrow \;\Rightarrow\; \mu \downarrowλ↑⇒μ↓ Hence, λ↑  ⇒  Dm↓\lambda \uparrow \;\Rightarrow\; D_m \downarrowλ↑⇒Dm​↓

  4. Also, since the given μ\muμ vs λ\lambdaλ graph for crown glass is a decreasing, non-linear curve, the DmD_mDm​ vs λ\lambdaλ graph will have the same shape, only shifted/scaled because of Dm=(μ−1)A.D_m=(\mu-1)A.Dm​=(μ−1)A.

  5. So the correct graph must be the one in which DmD_mDm​ decreases with increasing wavelength in the same manner as μ\muμ decreases.
