A compound with molecular mass 180 is acylated with CH3COClCH_3COClCH3COCl to get a compound with molecular mass 390. The number of amino groups present per molecule of the former compound is:
  1. A
    2
  2. B
    5
  3. C
    4
  4. D

Correct answer: B

  1. Understand the reaction

Acylation of an amino group with acetyl chloride occurs as:

−NH2+CH3COCl→−NHCOCH3+HCl-NH_2 + CH_3COCl \rightarrow -NHCOCH_3 + HCl−NH2+CH3COCl→−NHCOCH3+HCl

Each amino group gets converted into an acetamide group.

  1. Find mass increase per amino group

In this reaction, one hydrogen from −NH2-NH_2−NH2 is replaced by the acetyl group COCH3COCH_3COCH3.

So, net mass added per amino group is:

M(COCH3)−M(H)=(12+16+12+3)−1=43−1=42M(COCH_3) - M(H) = (12+16+12+3) - 1 = 43 - 1 = 42M(COCH3)−M(H)=(12+16+12+3)−1=43−1=42

Equivalently, each acylation increases molecular mass by 424242.

  1. Use the given molecular masses

Initial molecular mass:

180180180

Final molecular mass after acylation:

390390390

So total increase in mass is:

390−180=210390 - 180 = 210390−180=210

  1. Calculate number of amino groups

If each amino group increases mass by 424242, then number of amino groups is:

n=21042=5n = \frac{210}{42} = 5n=42210=5

  1. Match with options

Thus, the compound contains:

5\boxed{5}5

So the correct option is B.
